When it comes to PSECU balance transfers, you may be familiar with the basics: By taking advantage of our low balance transfer APR and transferring high-interest credit card debt to our Classic Card, you can reduce the amount of interest you pay. Plus, with no PSECU balance transfer fees, all your savings stay with you instead of getting eaten up by fees.
You may be surprised to find, though, that there are many benefits to a PSECU Visa® balance transfer beyond simply moving high-interest credit card debt. Discover these often-overlooked details and unlock countless opportunities to conquer your debt.
1. You can use a Visa balance transfer to move balances from high-interest loans – not just credit cards.
Maybe you took advantage of a buy now, pay later offer that’s costing you more than you’d like in the long run. Or maybe you have a high-APR personal loan that you can’t seem to pay off because your payments are eaten up by interest charges. While you can’t use a PSECU balance transfer to pay off other PSECU loans, there are still plenty of other ways to make it work for you.
You can transfer balances from loans like these, and many others, to our Classic Card and pay just 2.9% APR1 during the promotional period from January 1, 2025, through June 30, 2025. The 2.9% APR will continue to apply to Visa balance transfers made during the promotional period until December 31, 2025.
2. You can use a Visa balance transfer for a purchase or to pay an individual.
Need to make a large purchase, but don’t have the cash? Instead of charging it to a high-interest credit card, you can use a Visa balance transfer check. In digital banking, you can request to have Visa balance transfer checks sent to you (you can request three or six at a time). You can then write those checks as payable to a retailer the same way you would use a personal check.
Going in on a large purchase with a friend? Or buying something directly from an individual? You can also use a Visa balance transfer to pay a person directly.
You can log into digital banking and send a payment to another person at any time by requesting a Visa balance transfer. Alternatively, you can write a Visa balance transfer check payable to that person. There are a few exceptions to this - Visa balance transfer checks cannot be made payable to yourself, cash, or a joint owner on your account, nor can they be used to pay a PSECU loan. If you do utilize a Visa balance transfer check in one of these ways, you’ll be charged the cash advance APR on the transaction.
3. You can take advantage of multiple Visa balance transfer offers at once.
You can have up to 10 pending balance transfers on your card at one time, as long as the combined amount remains within your credit limit. This means you can take advantage of multiple promotional rates, whether they’re from the same or different offers. As you pay down your transferred balances, you can request new transfers and continue saving with our low promotion APR1. Unlike many financial institutions that limit balance transfer opportunities, we give you the freedom to strategically manage and conquer your debt.
Quick Tips for Making the Most of a PSECU Visa Balance Transfer
Itching to get started on your journey to conquer your debt? There are a few things you should know to be set up for success:
- Our Classic Card boasts a low purchase APR, currently 12.9%2 (subject to change), which is almost half of the national average of 24.61%3. So, even if you’re not able to pay off your balance transfer before the promotional period expires, you can still save on interest when compared to higher interest cards.
- The minimum amount you can transfer to your PSECU credit card is $250 if conducting the transfer in digital banking. If you request a paper check, there is no minimum transfer amount. The maximum you can transfer is the available credit limit on your credit card.
- Once you have our Classic Card, transferring a balance is easy to do in digital banking. Simply log in, navigate to Cards in the Menu, and select Manage Cards (in the mobile app, you’ll go directly to Manage Cards). Choose Visa® Balance Transfer next to or below your Classic Card and follow the on-screen prompts.
