Overdraft Services
Understanding the overdraft services available to you is an important part of managing your PSECU account.
Our Three-Tiered Approach to Overdraft Services and Fees
-
Our Overdraft Protection Transfer Service lets you link another share (commonly called an account) or Visa® loan to your checking share. This means that if you try to spend more than you have in your checking share via check, ACH transaction, or bill payer, we'll automatically transfer funds from the linked account at no fee! It's easy to enroll - simply follow the instructions below:
- Log into online banking.
- Click the drop-down menu at the top left.
- Under Transfers, select Overdraft Protection.
- Select which options you'd like to be used as your overdraft protection and click Confirm.
Overdraft protection transfers will occur in the order specified under Current Options. You can click the Add or Remove buttons and use the up and down arrows to change the order. Your available options will depend on what account types you have open with us, such as savings shares and credit cards. On top of saving money by not paying an overdraft fee, having a backup plan for when your checking account is low lets you avoid returned check or service fees from payees. Please note: While the above guidelines apply to most members, Overdraft Protection Transfer Service is not available for custodial accounts and may not be available for some other specialty account types.
-
When it comes to managing money, one backup plan isn't always enough. That's why, on top of our no-fee Overdraft Protection Transfer Service, we also offer Courtesy Pay.
Through Courtesy Pay, we'll spot you up to $500 if your checking account and linked accounts don't have sufficient available funds for a check (including bill payer check) or ACH transaction. While this does carry a $15 fee per transaction, it can prevent you from being assessed high returned check or service fees from payees and eliminate the hassle associated with declined payments.
All eligible members are automatically enrolled in Courtesy Pay.
Not interested? You can easily opt out, but remember, this could open you up to being charged higher fees from others.
-
If you opt out of Overdraft Protection Transfer Service and Courtesy Pay or reach the limit of these services, the check or ACH transaction will be returned unpaid. But we've still got your back. While we can't control returned check or service fees from others, you won't see a charge from us.

Checks, ACH transactions, and bill payer transactions clearing from your Checking share are covered by Overdraft Protection Transfer Service. One-time debit card purchases and ATM transactions are not covered.
-
We don’t charge a fee for setting up Overdraft Protection Transfer Service. This service lets you link another share (commonly called an account) or Visa® loan to your checking share. This means that if you try to spend more than you have in your checking share via check, ACH transaction, or bill payer, we'll automatically transfer funds from the linked account at no fee! However, if you choose to use a credit card to protect your checking account from being overdrawn, those overdraft transfers are considered cash advances. Refer to your credit card agreement for fees and charges related to cash advances.
-
We offer a discretionary service known as Courtesy Pay. If you do not opt-out of Courtesy Pay, if a check (including bill payer check) or ACH transaction is presented for payment and your account does not have a sufficient available balance to pay it, then we may choose to pay that check (including a bill payer check) or ACH transaction and overdraw your account, and your account will be charged a Courtesy Pay fee (overdraft fee), as disclosed in the Fee Schedule.
Unlike Overdraft Protection Transfer Service, Courtesy Pay carries a small $15 fee per transaction, which will be deducted from your account.
The Courtesy Pay limit is $500. Courtesy Pay fees, as well as the amount of the overdraft item, will be subtracted from the Courtesy Pay limit.
-
After an account has been open for 90 days, qualifying members are automatically enrolled in Courtesy Pay if eligibility criteria are met and the member is in good standing as defined by PSECU's Bylaws. Basic Service Accounts are not eligible for Courtesy Pay.
-
Checks (including a bill payer check) and ACH transactions are covered by Courtesy Pay. Courtesy Pay is not available for one-time debit card purchases, ATM or Electronic Bill Payer Transactions.
-
You can opt out of Courtesy Pay at any time by calling us at 800.237.7328.

Yes, it's really $0! PSECU will not assess a fee if a transaction is returned unpaid due to non-sufficient available funds in your checking account. The payee may still charge you a returned check or service fee, but there will be no NSF fee on our end.
